Restorative Dentistry
Have No Fear – Restorative Dentistry
Restorative dentistry helps to preserve a tooth (or teeth) that has been damaged in some way. This specialty area of dentistry can enhance the smile’s appearance and improve the functioning of the teeth. In some cases, restorative dentistry may even be able to help a patient keep a biological tooth that might otherwise need to be extracted.
Fort Worth Family Smiles uses a wide variety of interventions, depending on the patient’s needs. Some patients may only need something minor, such as a filling, or something more significant as a root canal therapy or even a complete smile makeover. Patients may choose restorative dental treatments solely for aesthetic reasons, such as having metal fillings removed and replaced with composite ones that are less intrusive on the smile’s appearance.
Save The Tooth
Restorative dental interventions may be used to save a natural tooth, such as a crown that is placed to protect a tooth that has developed a large cavity. Root canal therapy, in which the infected pulp is removed from the center, can also help to preserve a significantly damaged tooth.
At times, teeth are so badly damaged that they cannot be salvaged. In these cases, our restorative dentist may also work to replace missing teeth due to oral disease or injury. The patient may need to be fitted with a dental bridge or even a full denture.
Regardless of the particular treatment, it is unlikely that the restoration will detract from your smile in any way. Thanks to advanced, lifelike materials that are used in devices like crowns, bridges and dentures, restorative dentists can come quite close to replicating the appearance of your biological teeth. A casual observer may not even be able to determine which tooth is the prosthetic and which one is real!
